WIth any modality you should feel some improvement after the first session. Depending on how chronic the issue is, it can take longer to solve. If an issue has been present for decades, then obviously it can take much longer than someone who has an acute issue. In saying that, If I can not make any difference for you in 3 to 4 sessions I will be referring you to someone else.
1. Find out what kind of treatment you want. Some want to relax and not do assessment or actively participate in corrective work. Some clients want the issue resolved as quickly as possible and are willing to follow my guidance.
2. Assessment to address individual needs.
3. Treatment of those issues, which can be a choice or remedial, dry needling, Craniosacral and neurokinetic therapy. Client always has the final say on what therapy they would like me to use.
4. Post treatment assessment to see if issue has improved.
5. Self care advice which can include release techniques, corrective exercise, Strapping techniques, stretches or additional support/referrals.
6. Optional after treatment check in.

How often you need massage is dependent on, your lifestyle, physical condition, and if you are open to caring for yourself in between visits.
I have a few categories of clients, which one you fall into will depend on which one you identify with.
Weekly to fortnightly treatments are usually for those with chronic pain, that have had multiple health issues, surgeries, or injuries. This type of frequency is to help with ongoing pain management with the end goal being able to self manage their pain.
Monthly clients who attend are highly active, or have demanding physical jobs but are not as interested in doing self care at home due to other commitments or lack of time.
The majority of my clients see me periodically for 1 to 4 sessions for a particular issue. I try my best to get people pain free as quickly as possible, for as long as possible. I use a combination of Dry needling, NKT and remedial. The client can recover a lot faster if they are committed to following advice between sessions.
